Our Doctors

Dr. Larry Louie and Dr. Cory Larson

DR. LARRY LOUIE

Dr. Larry Louie has been a practicing optometrist for over 30 years. He established Louie Eyecare Centre on 124 Street in 1993 with a vision of bringing his own brand of personalized service in an independent practice while providing comprehensive eye care exam and unique high quality eye wear designs to Edmonton.

Believing in keeping up-to-date with the latest technology and medical advances in eye care, Dr. Louie attends annual optometric conferences around the world bringing back new medical updates and practices, and equipment to enhance care for his patients and their health.

During his last year of optometry school at the University of Waterloo in 1988, he was granted an externalship in Haiti where he performed eye examinations for local residents. The experience was life changing. He became much more aware and concerned about the growing problem of preventable and treatable blindness in the world. The fact is two out of three blind people in the world are women and young girls; most of them living in areas of developing countries where they have limited resources and unequal access to sight restoring services.

Dr. Larry Louie is also internationally recognized for his other passion – documentary photography. As a documentary photographer, his images have won numerous international accolades and has been exhibited and published worldwide.

Using his optometry and photography as a platform, Dr. Louie raises awareness on social issues and challenges people are encountering, especially those with vision impairments, in a world facing rapid urbanization and globalization. From raising funds for eye camps in the Himalayan mountains, to supporting blind girls in a school in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and volunteering and raising funds for NGO’s like the Seva Foundation, he hopes his work will make a difference and reveal the light that is found in the darkest places.

DR. CORY LARSON

Joining the practice in August of 2016, Dr. Larson has really loved getting to know the patients that are like family members here at Louie Eyecare Centre. Originally from Daysland, (near Camrose), Alberta, his need for glasses in 5th grade sparked his interest in sight and vision correction. He graduated with honors as Valedictorian from Daysland High School and went on to complete his Bachelor of Science at the University of Alberta in 2010. In 2014, he graduated from Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry with an induction into the Optometric Honors Society Beta Sigma Kappa.

During his final year of rotations, he learned from a wide variety of optometry specialties. He spent one summer in Fort Collins, Colorado, at a pediatric and vision therapy practice; the fall in San Clemente, California, at an OD/MD surgical site specializing in geriatrics and cosmetic surgery; the winter in Glendale, Arizona, at a geriatric and primary care private practice; the spring in Jacksonville, Florida, at a specialty anterior segment disease practice with an emphasis on corneal and glaucoma surgery. He particularly enjoys treating and managing dry eye as it affects so many people.

Dr. Larson is always interested in learning something new. He likes spending time outdoors in the summer hiking, biking, camping and boating. In the winter, he takes pleasure in watching and playing hockey, and spending time with family and friends. At Louie Eyecare Centre, he particularly enjoys interacting with patients and working with them to find out the best way to take care of their vision and ocular health needs.

In her free time Kitty enjoys spending time with her family and two kids who are active in sports, art, and music.

JADE COWAN

After working for several years as a fashion merchandiser and photo stylist, Jade branched out into the optical world working as a frame stylist. This is where she discovered her interest in opticianry, and how the field merged science and style. Now, as a Registered Optician she is able to assist you with all of your eyewear needs. From helping you choose and adjust the perfect frame, to lens selection and education, Jade wants to help each individual look and see their best.

In her spare time Jade enjoys weekend trips to the mountains and discovering great new local restaurants. In the summer, if she is not out on the lake, you will likely spot her at one of the many Folk Festivals across Alberta.
