The end of the year is upon us, which means it’s time to start using up those health insurance benefits before they disappear. If you’ve been putting off that doctor’s appointment or need to renew your prescription medications, now is the time to do it. Here are a few reminders about your health insurance and how to make the most of your benefits before the new year.
1. Know Your Coverage and Benefits
The first step is to know what coverage and benefits you have. Take some time to review your plan and find out what expenses are covered and what aren’t. This way, you can avoid any unwanted surprises down the road. If you have any questions about your coverage, don’t hesitate to reach out to your insurance provider for clarification.
2. Check Your Balance
If you have a spending account attached to your health insurance, now is a good time to check your balance and see how much money you have left to use. Keep in mind that any unspent funds will be forfeited at the end of the year, so it’s important to spend them wisely. At Louie Eyecare Centre, we offer direct billing for Alberta Blue Cross & Green Shield Canada. If you have a different insurance provider – we can still see you for your exam and glasses or contact lens coverage! In this case, you will pay upfront for the appointment and materials, and we will provide printed receipts for you to submit and be reimbursed directly by your provider. Many providers have helpful apps or the ability to submit online for your ease.
3. Schedule That Appointment
If there’s a doctor’s appointment that you’ve been putting off, now is the time to schedule it. It’s better to schedule appointments sooner rather than later so you can be sure to get in before everything gets booked up.
If you haven’t had your eyes checked this year, you can use your health insurance benefits to cover the cost. Many plans also provide discounts on eyeglasses and contact lenses. At Louie Eyecare Centre, we have a wide selection of designer eyewear that you can choose from. Our optical lab is fully equipped so that you can get your glasses quickly and conveniently.
December is a busy month for everyone, but it’s important not to forget about your health insurance coverage and benefits before they renew at the end of the year. If you need help figuring out your coverage or balances, contact your insurance provider for assistance. And if you’re due for a checkup or other medical appointments, call our clinic today. Dr. Lary Louie and Dr. Cory Larson at Louie Eyecare Centre are accepting appointments now.
